Poison

Poison’s Story: A Survivor’s Resilience

Poison was a creature of routine, a sleek ginger shadow who patrolled the same fences and napped on the same porch swings. Every evening, she was greeted by a human who left out a bowl of food.

One day, the bowl was different. The usual kibble was replaced by a rare and exquisite treat: tuna. Poison, her tail twitching with anticipation, didn’t hesitate. She devoured it all, purring as the human watched from the window.

A few hours later, her world turned upside down. A fiery pain ripped through her belly, and her legs, usually so quick and sure, became useless, twitching uncontrollably. She stumbled off the porch and collapsed in a pile of hydrangeas, her body fighting a silent, desperate war.

She lay there for what felt like an eternity, but slowly, agonizingly, the worst of the pain began to recede. The tremors in her legs lessened, and the nausea subsided. She tried to stand, a wobbly attempt that sent her tumbling back into the dirt. But she tried again.

Other people took her to the vet, and they tried to save her. She can’t run, but she can walk, and every painful, deliberate step is a quiet defiance—a refusal to let the human who poisoned her win.

Poison is still a bit shy and has low trust in people, but considering where she came from, she is doing amazing. This can only improve in the future. She is a survivor, a testament to resilience, a ginger ghost haunting the very streets that almost became her grave. She is alive, still breathing, still feeling the sun, and that is everything.
